Lineker was all-smiles as he posed for an image along with his new pet, which has now landed safely within the UK after being rescued from the streets of Los Angeles.

He wrote on Twitter: “Meet Filbert, the brand new and already a lot beloved member of the Lineker household. He’s a rescue from the streets of LA.

“Met him by means of his foster mother or father and good friend Reggie, @r_breakspear on a current vacation, and it was love at first sight.

“I’ve been dogless for far too long.”
