‘This shows how far we’ve fallen’ – Man Utd fans fume with Rangnick set to juggle consultancy role with Austria job

MANCHESTER UNITED fans have been left baffled after it was announced Ralf Rangnick would stay on as a consultant while managing Austria.

The German’s new international gig was announced this morning, as he prepares to leave his role as Red Devils interim boss behind in the coming weeks.

Rangnick’s involvement at Old Trafford won’t be coming to a complete end, however, as he said: “I will take over as national team manager of Austria at the end of the season but will continue my consultancy with Manchester United.

“I’m really looking forward to playing my part in helping United become a real force again.

“It is an honour for me to take on the role of (Austria) manager.

“The prospect of contesting the European Championships in Germany with a young team hungry for success fills me with great anticipation.”

Some Red Devils fans have been left perplexed by the arrangement, after being severely underwhelmed by Rangnick’s efforts this season.

One wrote on social media: “How does he have a job seriously?”

While another more brutally added: “Rangnick came in, gaslit the f*** out of the players and killed their confidence, screamed about change, lost a bunch of games, knocked us out of Europe and left for a different job all within 5 months ”

A third moaned: “Surely this announcement should have waited till the end of the season, all it does is add more distractions and also suggests rather than focusing solely on getting us a top 4 finish he’s been doing plenty of side dealings for his own personal career.”

And a fourth weighed in: “This shows how far we’ve fallen, a consultant who’s got another full time job and will do 6 days a month. In or out, just shows the last 6 months have been a waste of time then as well.”

Another tweet likened Rangnick’s situation juggling his new jobs to Bart Simpson playing multiple games of chess at the same time.

Others can’t believe that United are happy having the 63-year-old onboard part-time.

One wrote: “We need specialists on full-time in this club. The new manager and the new Sports Director.

“This part-time stuff will only harm the club. Have no idea how such club as United is okay with this.”

Rangnick is set to compile a dossier for incoming boss Erik ten Hag.

And it may contain a glowing review of Cristiano Ronaldo, if his comments last night are anything to go by.

After the Portuguese’s strike rescued a 1-1 draw against Chelsea, Rangnick said: “I mean not only the goal he scored today but also his whole performance, his attitude, how often he helped in our own half.
